Implementation

The EYFS 2021 Curriculum is implemented through discrete teaching and enabling environments.  We believe the foundation for all future learning  begins with an holistic approach which takes into the child’s wellbeing and  effective speech, language and communication. We create a language rich environment, inside and out that scaffolds and enables children as they begin their journey towards independence. Wellbeing is threaded throughout the EYFS and supported by the delivery of wellbeing sessions using the knowledge and advice of our onsite wellbeing advisor.

The intent in our provision is to facilitate our children to be:

  • Happy
  • Confident
  • Independent
  • Resilient
  • Effective communicators
  • Critical thinkers
  • Active Learners

Starting in Nursery, we want OLOG children to develop attention and listening skills. They will develop their speech and language skills on a journey which ensures all children in our care make progress and are able to fully access the curriculum during their time in the Early Years and beyond. We use a wide range of approaches to ensure that children’s communication and language is effective and broadened during their time with us. This is the foundation from which all other areas of the curriculum flow, we achieve this by beginning with fostering positive relationships and the delivery of the attention and listening programme which is fun and engaging and systematically builds the skills vital for all future learning. Once children have acquired or broadened their attention and listening skills we use various approaches such as:

  • Enabling play schemas
  • Nursery maths programme
  • Talk boost
  • Ticket time
  • Feedback-
  • Helicopter stories
  • Baby watching
  • Google Classroom - digital learning platform
  • Parent meetings face to face or virtually
  • Library Books and Key texts
  • EAL group
  • Individual provision
  • Phonics:- Read Write Inc
  • Music sessions with our music teacher
  • Trips and visits
  • Learning Detectives:-Pupil voice
  • Jungle Journeys
  • Skill progression maps
  • Learning Behaviours
  • Nurture Groups -
  • Enabling environments inside and outside
  • Forest School
  • White Rose Maths:- Reception Maths
  • CPD:- Staff training
  • Reception book work

These approaches build effective speech language and communication and other vital skills, especially children’s physical, personal, social and emotional development that enable children to reach the Early Learning Goals. We work closely with Key Stage One teachers to ensure a smooth transition to Year One as children begin their journey in Key Stage One and beyond.
